Description

A shinplaster was fractional paper currency of low denomination, typically less than one dollar. They were circulated in the U.S. where there was a shortage of metal coinage. The shinplaster in this lot is for fifty cents. The image on the shinplaster is William H. Crawford who was the Secretary of the Treasury from 1817 to 1825. The signatures on the shinplaster (John Chalfant New and John Allison) show that it was produced around 1875 to 1876.  Condition: It has wear is as shown in the images. Measurements: 4.25" by 2".  Pickup category timeslot {A}
