Description

A shinplaster was fractional paper currency of low denomination, typically less than one dollar. They were circulated in the U.S. where there was a shortage of metal coinage. The shinplaster in this lot is for twenty-five cents. The image on the shinplaster is Robert Walker who was the Secretary of the Treasury in 1845. The signatures on the shinplaster (Francis Elias Spinner and John Allison) show that it was produced around 1869 to 1875.  Condition: Heavy wear as shown in the images.
