A scarce and elegant Art Deco squat bowl by Bates Pottery of Chicago, circa 1930s. Made in soft ivory-toned ceramic with a mesmerizing offset spiral motif that creates a rhythmic, sculptural form. Each rib ends in a curled detail at the rim, giving the bowl a finished, collar-like edge. Measures 3" tall and 6 1/2" wide. Very little is known about this short-lived pottery, but surviving examples are rare and valued for their high-quality craftsmanship and refined decorative appeal.
