Description

This lot is a 1982 Cirrus Gallery exhibit poster for renowned California artist Leah Schwartz (1920-2003). As young person coming of age on the East Coast, she studied under artist Ben Shahn (1898-1989) a well-known social realist painter and leftist political activist. “He taught me to see things that most people wouldn’t see, ordinary things,” she recalled. “In that period, art was with a capital A. It wasn’t about ordinary things. But his was, and I loved that about his work, so I began to see ordinary things as worth painting. And paint she did. For over 50 years, she traveled up and down California searching for beauty in the most ordinary things. This included watercolors of flowers. The originals now bring thousands of dollars. This lot is an original 1982 Cirrus Gallery poster selling some her watercolors. The frame is approximately 18.5 inches x 30.5 inches. The last picture is a screenshot of one for sale on another forum. Measurements: 19x2x31 Pickup category timeslot {A}
