Striking pair of Mid-Century Modernist drop earrings crafted by the renowned Québecois design duo Micheline de Passillé and Yves Sylvestre. These elegant earrings feature a minimalist geometric circular drop design finished with a beautiful gold wash over a solid silver base. The centers are filled with a vibrant, finely textured hot-red vitreous enamel—a hallmark of the designers' iconic craftsmanship. Material: .925 Sterling Silver base with gold-plated overlay.Inlay: Textured red vitreous cloisonné enamel (the enamel on this pair is pristine - a rarity for the age of the piece). Active during the 1960s and 1970s, the husband-and-wife team of de Passillé-Sylvestre was pivotal in the Canadian Modernist jewelry movement. Their work coincided with and beautifully reflected the cultural awakening of Québec's "Quiet Revolution". While they are primarily famous for their larger, avant-garde enamel brooches and pendants, their delicate earrings are highly wearable and collected for their exceptional enamel texturing techniques. Authentic, cleanly hallmarked pieces continue to rise in popularity among Mid-Century art enthusiasts. While modern jewelry regulations often require explicit stamps like "GP" (gold plated), "GEP" (gold electroplated), or "Vermeil", vintage mid-century artisan jewelry—especially by Canadian modernist makers like de Passillé-Sylvestre—frequently omitted a specific gold hallmark. Cataloging vintage artisan jewelry relies heavily on known maker histories. Micheline de Passillé and Yves Sylvestre worked almost exclusively in two primary metals for their colored vitreous enamel work: copper (for their mass-produced enamel brooches and bowls) and sterling silver (for their high-end boutique jewelry lines). When they wanted a gold look for their silver collections, they utilized a traditional dipping method to add a thin, gleaming gold gilt layer directly over the sterling silver base.
