The Origins of the "Brownie Pixie": When Lord Baden-Powell first launched the junior branch of the Girl Guides in 1914, they were originally called "Rosebuds" and wore a simple flower emblem. The girls felt the name was too delicate, leading to a rebrand into "Brownies" in 1915, inspired by the magical, helpful household spirits from Juliana Horatia Ewing’s story The Brownies.The Design History: The earliest Brownie membership pins featured simple figures that easily broke. In 1922, the British Girl Guides association officially introduced and patented this specific "Pixie on a Wide Bar" brass design under Registration No. 689495. The design proved incredibly sturdy and successful, remaining the staple Promise Badge design for generations from the 1920s all the way through the 1970s. Pickup category timeslot {A}
