The 1930s World's Fair Saturn lamp is an iconic Art Deco souvenir desk light produced for major mid-century international exhibitions. Designer and Manufacturer: Designed by L.J. Houze and manufactured by the L.J. Houze Glass Company of Point Marion, Pennsylvania. Exhibitions: Featured as official or themed souvenirs for the 1933-1934 Chicago World's Fair ("A Century of Progress") and the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair ("The World of Tomorrow"). Design & Materials: Constructed with a two-piece frosted or satin-finished opalescent/uranium glass body—often featuring a stepped skyscraper-style conical base and a planetary globe shade ringed like Saturn. The upper dome includes interior-painted or stenciled yellow stars and crescent moons

The lamp gained modern cult status after appearing as set decoration in classic sci-fi and mystery media, including Ridley Scott's film Blade Runner and David Lynch's series Twin Peaks.

Large Inuit Hunter With Seal Catch Whalebone Carving

Fine shape 18"

Signed and dated “ Queen Of Hearts “ 1995

Kate Church"Combining the line and form of sculpture with the playful anima of puppetry has been my livelihood for more than 20 years. I stumbled into it during my time as a textile associate with Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia. A desire to do more than clothe puppets and puppeteers was part of creating my first little doll. Enchanted from the first moment, that doll still sits in my studio charming everyone who sees her.
The gesture of my work draws on a continuing practice and study of the human figure. Quietly engaging the tender emotional place I work from with an earned depth of experience, my intention is to carry a silent imprint or sense of emotion through the posture and expression of the figure evolving in front of me. Built using a simple armature that is movable throughout its construction, a tangible sense of emerging comes naturally to the finished sculpture. In fact, movement is part of the design.
I am proud to have created figures for Cirque du Soleil, which were sold internationally. For twenty years I produced an annual collection for the One-of-A-Kind Show in Toronto. In 2012 I began to teach others what I have taught myself: a method and approach to building sculptural character. Fueled by the enthusiasm of the students, I facilitate everything from discovering a new art form to finding the confidence to tackle a career."

A respected member of his community, Meeko was known for his generosity and would often host fellow artists travelling through Kuujjuaraapik. He strove to share his traditional knowledge with the younger generation and often took school groups out on the land, instructing the children in survival skills. An active member of the church, Meeko also served on the community’s justice committee.

Best known as a talented sculptor and printmaker, Meeko was also noted for his skills in snow sculpting. He participated in national competitions held in Quebec in 1977 and 1982. In 1987, he and his wife, Lucy, participated in an international competition held in Rovaniemi, Finland — they were awarded first prize in the “figurative expression” category for their efforts. Meeko also represented Nunavik at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, where he once again demonstrated his snow sculpting skills. He was later recognized for his efforts by Makivik Corporation and was honoured with an award for achievement in 1994.

Meeko’s work is held in important collections across the country such as that of the Royal Ontario Museum, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and has also been featured in international exhibitions in Jerusalem, Richmond, Virginia, and Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Meeko’s work first gained attention when one of his experimental prints was included in the initial Arctic Quebec print collection, released in 1972. Selected by the Kuujjuaraapik Cooperative to participate in a seven-week printmaking workshop delivered by Bob Paterson in Puvirnituq, Meeko attended the workshop with his wife, Lucy, and his townsman Adamie Papialuk.
