Lot #55: Antique wall sconces

Antique sconces   Wall scones. DATE Thu May 30 2024 Your scones, judging from the pictures are made in the first half of the 20th century. The design is inspired by a 18th century model that was common in Europe and usually made of brass or bronze. Wall scones are very decorative and creates a fine atmosphere, so if you have plans to sell them I believe you will have no problem. NOTES Wall sconce is a very old form of lighting, the early ones were used with different kind of oils and later with candles and gas. They could provided a general lighting in rooms, corridors, hallways and on outside walls. The light of the candle flame was often intensified by a reflecting backplate, but it also made it a bit more safe. Later came wall scones with cut glass to spread the light. I had the sconces appraised. I will send the buyer the certificate.  Push button knob to turn on and off. There's an old label on the back but I cannot make out I thought the sconces were cast aluminum because it looks like that from behind but according to the appraisal it is not.
