A traditional Japanese stoneware fresh water jar used in the tea ceremony, featuring a distinctive wood-fired unglazed finish. Bizen-yaki is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, with a history dating back over a thousand years to the Heian period. Produced in Okayama Prefecture, these pieces are fired in kilns for up to two weeks, relying on the natural ash and high temperatures to create unique 'yo-hen' or 'kiln changes' rather than using artificial glazes. The water jar, or mizusashi, is a central component of the Japanese tea ceremony (Chanoyu). 1950-1980 Clay,Ash The piece appears in good vintage condition with characteristic kiln markings and a stable foot. No visible cracks or major chips are present, which preserves its functional value for tea ceremonies. Dimensions: 6.5 wide 3 Tall Pickup category timeslot {A}
