Framed print of Emily Carr&#39;s 1929 watercolour is titled &#34;Big Eagle, Skidigate, B.C.&#34; (or &#34;The Great Eagle, Skidegate, B.C.&#34;) and depicts a carved wooden eagle at the top of a memorial pole in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. The work captures the powerful form of the eagle and its connection to the landscape, a subject Carr developed over several years, building on sketches and paintings from her 1912 and 1928 journeys to Haida Gwaii. The original pole had a memorial eagle that had since fallen, and Carr&#39;s painting preserves its memory.
