This is a vintage Tasco Deluxe student microscope, in a wooden carrying case. These microscopes were popular for students and hobbyists in the mid-20th century. 
The microscope has a black and silver metal body and comes with multiple eyepieces and objective lenses. 
It is a compound microscope, which uses a combination of lenses to achieve higher magnification. 
Some models, like the &#34;Tasco Deluxe Microscope 600x,&#34; could achieve a magnification of up to 600x.

This is a vintage skirt hem marker, a tool used in sewing and tailoring to mark a consistent hemline on a skirt or dress.
The device consists of a vertical ruler or measuring stick, a base for stability, and a small container to hold marking material, such as chalk or pins. 
The hem marker allows a person to mark their own hemline without assistance, ensuring the measurement is uniform all the way around. 
The small glass jar attached to the ruler holds chalk powder, which is dispensed onto the fabric to create a visible line. 
The red clamp-like piece can be moved up and down the ruler to adjust the height of the hem
