Antique Tablecloth with Lace Trim

The embroidery is a detailed example of whitework, where the design is stitched in white thread on a white background. It also features extensive cutwork, or Richelieu embroidery, where sections of the fabric have been carefully cut away and the edges are stitched with a buttonhole stitch to create a lacy, open pattern. The overall design is highly decorative, with large scrolling motifs and delicate floral patterns filling the open spaces. The combination of the solid embroidery and the open cutwork creates a complex and beautiful textile.
