Description

Milk glass is an opaque, translucent glass that was first produced in Venice in the 16th century. It became widely popular in the 19th century in the United States and Europe for both decorative and functional pieces. The white jar with the raised pattern is a classic example of milk glass. The creamer is an example of lustreware. This is a type of pottery that is decorated with a metallic glaze, giving it an iridescent, shimmering finish. The creamer has a "spatter" or mottled pattern, which was a popular design for lustreware. The iridescent sheen is a key characteristic of the lustre glaze. See photos for details.
